Artist's Comments

I've decided to practice faces and watercolor skin tones. I've faved four awesome portrait stock photos and I'll be drawing them, then painting them.

Line art in scraps: [link] (Though I went back and pretty much redrew everything, so it doesn't really count.)

Ok.

Clearly, i had some trouble with the blending. There were things I was doing that I was able to get away with on lighter skin that showed up on darker skin. That's good in a way. Better to catch it now than to make it a habit. Since then I found a really great tutorial on blending that I hope to use soon.

You have managed to catch the expressiveness of her eyes beautifully. :)

Thank you. Yeah, I completely redrew the eyes. I really wish I had rescanned it! I'd try painting it again. But -Oh!- woe is me.

Just yell at the scanner for a few minutes and you will feel better. I know it's not the scanner's fault, but it always helps to yell at inanimate objects (especially in public :D ). :)

Lovely job :) I love that you are trying so many new things. Makes me wanna experiment too. I really love the way you did the eyes, eyebrows and lips in this one.
The original photo that you used has so much contrast, that you almost wish to see more contrast here, but again- this is the way watercolors work sometimes. You could have used a few more shades of each color. I was actually looking at some water color paintings in the DR's office today, and was thinking of you.
Lovely expression in this :)
I LOVE mixing and blending colors, but it aint easy. What tutorial are you gonna look at? I might be interrested...
